Christine Smith Interview

Christine Smith Interview

Kent Currie: How long have you been playing rugby?

Christine Smith: I am a fifth semester so I have been playing for only 2 ½ years

KC: What influenced you to start playing rugby?

CS: I attended an interest meeting because I wanted to continue sports in college and rugby looked like my kind of thing. It was perfect as a stress relief and to get into shape.

KC: What are the best things about playing rugby?

CS: The group that I play with. The girls that are on the team are amazing and when we step out onto the field together it's almost like nothing else matters.

It is such a beautiful sport that so many see as violent but that is purely because they don't understand it.

KC: Do you think you will continue playing rugby once you have finished college?

CS: I'm not sure with all the sports in high school plus rugby now my body physically is getting worn down. I have a bad back as well as knees and ankles and something new after every game.

KC: Who have been the biggest influences in your career?

CS: I truly don't have any major influences but a combination of all the girls that are older and have been playing the game for a while definitely are major influences.

KC: What's your opinion on the state of American rugby?

CS: I wish that it was bigger and a major sport as it is across the globe. It isn't really shown or promoted so it is hard to get into something that many have not seen or sometimes never heard of.

KC: Would you like to represent the USA at any stage?

CS: I'm not sure because after college I could end up anywhere and depending on where I am in my life and how my body is it would all depend.
