The Northeastern University Maddogs held their home opener on Saturday facing the Amherst College Lord Jeffs at Parson's Field. Bouncing back from a frustrating defeat to Army in Week 1, the Maddogs came out firing from the opening whistle as they tried to even their record at 1-1.

The scoring started quickly for Northeastern as hooker David Carmichael picked the ball out of a ruck and pushed through the Amherst line for a try less than two minutes into the game.

From that point on the Maddog pack was the story as they stole scrum after scrum from the Lord Jeffs leading to constant pressure from the speedy Northeastern back line. The half ended with the score 31-3 with Amherst’s only points coming off an ill-advised penalty by Northeastern deep in their own half.

The intensity continued in the second half for the Maddogs as they maintained ball possession and asserted their tempo on the Lord Jeffs. Amherst’s only try came late in the game as their Scrumhalf rolled across the try line making the final score 50-10 after the conversion.
Northeastern brings its season record of 1-1 against UConn this Sunday at 6:00pm at Parson's Field.
