Match Report - LSU vs Arkansas
25 Jan 2007
Referee: Steve Parrill
Location: Baton Rouge
Match: Friendly
Arkansas State made the long drive to Baton Rouge for a pre cup warm up for both sides. Arkansas State is always in the hunt for Division II national honors and LSU was determined to put their mark down as a team in the hunt this year as well.
The match started out with the teams feeling each other out with no tries coming until the 28 minute mark when a LSU flanker powered his way in for a converted try to make the score 7-0 LSU. Four minutes later Ark St. would answer with their number 8 scoring after some spirited forward play to make the score 7-5. Ark St would then take the lead at the 15 minute mark after some LSU indiscipline to make the score 7-8.
LSU would answer with an unconverted try to make the score 12-5. Ark St would then slot a penalty kick to make the score 12-8 with 15 minutes to go in the half. Minutes later LSU would make State play for their own penalty to up the score to 15-8 at the half.
The second half would be all LSU, with the LSU number 12 making the play of the match running down his own kick, with a very unfriendly bounce for Ark St. to score a converted try to put LSU out 22-8 with 30 minutes to play in the match. LSU would score two more trys to go out to a 36-8 lead before Ark St. would power a try in with their large prop rumbling in with 8 minutes to play to make the final score LSU 36 Ark St. 13.
The match was a very hard fought physical contest that should both teams well heading into cup play. It was a joy to referee two well coached teams, well disciplined teams to just wanted to have a go at each other.
Special thanks goes to Chirs Baruosse and Jack Tillay, who just completed the referee course last week and came out to make a crew of three for both the A and B side matches.
