Harvard vs Yale Preview
28 Oct 2006
Harvard will travel to Yale this weekend expecting to meet a very determined and tenacious team.
Harvard has dominated their arch rivals in the last few years but they expect a torrid battle in New Haven this weekend.
Harvard’s backs captain Josh Copp is under no illusions of what lay’s ahead of his team “We really enjoy playing Yale and it always brings out the best in our team. Past results mean nothing and we are expecting to play a much improved Yale team better than any other we have faced” Copp says
Last season the two teams met on three separate occasions with Harvard winning all three 37-15, 19-14 and 24-5 respectively.
Yale will look to use forward runners off their halfback and will try to accumulate multiple phases with quick clean ball. They often use a deep backline formation which enables their midfield to run strongly at their opposites. If they are able to penetrate over the advantage line Harvard will find it difficult to stop their momentum.
The white conference is looking to be the more competitive out of the two with Dartmouth, Boston College, Harvard and Yale fighting for the two top spots.
This is a must win game for both Harvard and Yale. The loser will find it difficult to make the Top Two.
This is a very historic and traditional rivalry, one of the biggest in USA college rugby. With so much to play for this will be the match of the round.
